Blackground records, the late R&B singer Aaliyah Haughton‘s record label, has confirmed to Billboard, that a new Aaliyah album is in the works, will be co-produced by Drake, and will include Timbaland and Missy Elliott.
Wow.
Now I know that new song Enough Said w/ Drake and Aaliyah came out, which I’m not too fond of. It’s just aight… But an entire album. I mean I guess.
Blackground Records is run by Aaliyah’s cousin Jomo Hankerson and his father Barry. Aaliyah’s immediate family is not involved with the album and is against the production of it. “There is no official album being released and supported by the Haughton family,” said Rashad Haughton, Aaliyah’s brother.
Barry Hankerson, Aaliyah’s manager, and Blackground Records have the rights to her unreleased recordings and will probably release the album on their label, as well as Drake’s label, October’s Very Own.
“We really felt like it was time. There’s a real new generation that doesn’t know her necessarily, and we wanted to continue her musical legacy with this new generation. That’s one of the reasons why we wanted to do very contemporary music,” said Hankerson. “We didn’t want to make it a nostalgic project; we already did that with the ‘I Care 4 U‘ album. The idea was to release new music for her diehard fans, and also reintroduce her music to a new generation that doesn’t really understand how much influence she has in the music that they’re listening to today.”
Drake’s close collaborator Noah “40″ Shebib will co-produce the album along with Drake. Missy Elliott is set to feature on a track and Timbaland is set to produce 2 songs for the album. Drake reached out to Timbaland, saying it wouldn’t be right to do an Aaliyah album without him and Missy. They plan to release the album by the end of the year.
I really don’t think this is a good idea. But since I’m an Aaliyah fan, of course I’ll be following this and giving it a shot.
What’dya think?
Signed, breuckelen.

I think that it could be a kool album, with Drake and 40 have access to 13-14 unreleased tracks, they may be able to spin and make something that her die-hard fans can enjoy, and as well as re introduce Aaliyah to the kids that didn’t grow up on her music.
